My Second Guest Designer Spot !!!

Hello everyone, I am thrilled and honored to be Sue’s ( of Susana's Scrappin Corner) Guest Designer today. My first foray into card making was over 35 years ago when my daughter was a baby, I had no money and a stack of construction paper and a copy of a McCall’s Craft Magazine for that winter season. The patterns were called “Scherenschnitte” a Scandinavian technique. They were very intricate, delicate and beautiful. They also took a very long time to craft. Card making went on the back burner for many years and then along came my computer and graphic program and my interest was renewed for a brief time. A few more years passed and I started receiving hand made cards from my dear sister-in-law and a new interest was born. Enter my cricut. a bit of a learning curve, the internet and here we are!

My project for today is a “Folded Star Card”. I came across this card

by pure accident while surfing the net. There a few sites that feature this card with details on how to cut and construct it. The most helpful site I found was  http://mariannespapir.blogspot.com/2011/03/tre-bretteprosjekter.html and this video on YOU TUBE
 http://youtu.be/KB92GQ0FCb0

Here is my finished card. Hope you like it and are both intrigued and inspired to create one of your own!

This is what it looks like folded

and here it is opened.

My biggest challenges in creating this card were getting the measurements accurate and embellishing. I am not big on bling and tend to be very conservative ( less is more philosophy) I worry about over doing it. Over all I like how it turned out. I am going to try it in different sizes and play with the design a bit more.

Supplies

“Art Philosophy” cartridge for the sentiment mat and the leaves.
Martha Stewart punch for the flowers
A fall leaves spay acrylic stamp
My Creative Time stamp sets ” Many Greetings” and ” Mom you rock” for the sentiment.
Cream colored 12 x 12 card stock
2 coordinating sheets of pattern paper
8.5 x 11 off white card stock
Scraps of black, gold and burnt orange card stock.
Memento black ink and gold stickles

Thanks again to Sue for inviting me to be her guest designer for today. There is a fun "Mickey & Friends" Blog Hop going on and Sue  is participating.  Hop on over and have a look!!
I hope you enjoyed my presentation

For the hop today, I've created  a Fall Card ( 4.25 x 5.5 open the long way)
I Love fall and everything about it!

Recipe:
Most of the card stock is Recollections from Michael's, with some odd pieces from my ever growing stash!
T he pumpkin was cut from the Creative Memories Cheerful Season  cartridge at about 2.5 inches along with the layers.
The green mat is 4 x 5.25
The orange mat is 3.75 x 5 and was embossed with my cuttle bug using the pumpkin harvest folder.
The small brown mat is approximately 3 x 3.3 with a 1/4 in rounded top corners.
the printed mat measures 2.5 x3.25 top corners rounded as well.
The ribbon is from Joanne's Autumn Inspiration collection. The sentiment mat and label are from Emma's  stamp sets Inspiring Words (Accents) and Mixed Holiday Sentiments and the Curly Label Die.
I add a couple Irocks for a little sparkle and that was it.

I will be giving away a small fall themed package( it's a surprise package) to one commenter on my post to be drawn via random.org  on Sept 21st.

A Celebration and a Challenge

Good Morning! I am so very excited today for two reasons, well three actually! First today is my Birthday (64 years young LOL). Second September 12th is the one year anniversary of my blog. I can hardly believe that it has been  a year already, Time sure flies when you are having fun!! Third but not least I'm going to hold my first ever challenge. Anyone else getting excited?
For the challenge you can make a card layout or other crafty item with either a Birthday or an Anniversary theme. Easy enough right? However there is a little catch (wouldn't be as much fun if there wasn't), Since we are fast approaching Fall my favorite time of year. I would like you to use fall colors for your projects. The challenge starts today and runs through September 12th.. At the end there will be a drawing for a stamp set from the wonderful and talented Miss Emma of the  My Creative Time Blog. If you haven't seen her blog you are truly missing out.  Miss Emma has generously donate one of her stamp set for this give away. Which one you ask. that is going to remain a surprise for the moment.  Don;t you just love surprises!!
To get you started I made this card which could be used for either a Birthday or an Anniversary.

The patterned paper is from Creative Memories The rest of the card stock is from my stash, mostly Recollections card stock. I used the 'Art Philosophy' cartridge for the sentiment mat Inked everything with chocolate colored ink added some fall embellishments I had from Recollections and some raffia for the bow, The sentiment is from Miss Emma's newest release called
 "Mixed Holiday Sentiments".
Please hop over to her site and take a look around,

I'm new at this so I hope you will bear with me. I am adding a Mister linky widget at the end of this post for you to submit your projects.  .Once the Challenge is completed I will use Random.org to select the winner.
I'm looking forward to seeing your creation. and thanks for playing along!!

My project for Susans Birthday hop is a gift box In "Princess"Susan's favorite colors of pink and purple. I love these little treat boxes and they are so simple to make If you would like to  learn to make these her is a link http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/treat_box/  .The patterned papers were printed on Georgia Pacific card stock from digi paper I found on the web. The rest of the  is recollection card stock and other paper from my growing stash.
The crown is cut from Wall decor and more in two layers. The mat is from Lacy Labels in 2 different sizes the purple layer was embossed with the 'Victoria" folder. for both mats

The words were cut from The Birthday Cakes cartridge. and the mat was inked with pink Studio G ink. added some pink striped and lavender sheer ribbon to finish it off.
And what is a Birthday without a card. I found this cute Digi stamp  ShopScrapBookingSupply.com
